about

“It was a gloomy March Thursday in Toronto, Canada. We knew it was coming for days. The blizzard hit the fan in the afternoon, snarling the traffic with almost a foot of snow falling in a few hours, followed by a forecast of freezing rain.

I was getting panicked calls in the afternoon to cancel that night's show from Sebastian the promoter, who was worried about attendance….I said “no, we’ve done too many weeks of promo to stop now” or something, gritting my teeth at the thought of getting down to Kensington Market in one piece through these abysmal conditions.

I phoned a cab, arriving at the Supermarket venue about two hours late!
Everyone slowly trickled in…djembe players…horn players, Great Bob Scott… you know, the whole circus-mad, crazy bunch of us, looking disheveled and somewhat battered from the wind. Every body began to get busy preparing the stage, while those of us secretly wondered if anyone would show up that evening, aside from the bar staff, that is.

We were proved wrong, and a nice crowd showed up to chase the storm demons away and bear witness to what was surely one of the most amped up performances from Brainfudge in years.

Special thanks goes out to West African drum ensemble AINIKE who started the evening off to rousing applause and warmed everyone up with their fiery Malinke rhythms.

We recorded it all with the help of Johnny Maclean, and here it is for you all now to enjoy!”

Thanks goes out to Sebastian Cook, CIUT, DJ Chocolate, DJ Medicine Man, DJ Patrick Roots and CBC Metro Morning for promoting the show.
